Centralised self-exclusion for non-casino jackpot rooms

SINGAPORE - Singapore residents can now voluntarily exclude themselves from non-casino gambling venues, such as jackpot machine rooms in recreation clubs.

Under a centralised self-exclusion system launched today by the Responsible Gambling Forum (RGF), Singapore citizens and permanent residents (PRs) can self-exclude themselves from casinos and non-casino gambling venues in a single application online.

Users can also bar themselves from setting up or using betting accounts at Singapore Pools and Singapore Turf Club, said a statement from RGF.

Users can find out how to apply to bar themselves from casinos and non-casino gambling venues at the website of the National Council on Problem Gambling.

Mr Patrick Liew, RGF co-chair and chairman of Ayer Rajah Citizen's Consultative Committee, said: "While the Government has moved to make casino social safeguards robust and stringent, the community has always been concerned with the comparatively weaker social safeguards in place for non-casino gambling...This is a move in the right direction to strengthen responsible gambling measures."

RGF was established last year with representatives from the gambling industry and the community. Its other co-chair is Mr Tan Soo Nan, chief executive of Singapore Pools.

RGF said that Resorts World Sentosa has volunteered to develop and run a customised responsible gambling training curriculum for staff of private lottery clubs, to help them implement responsible gambling measures effectively.

RGF also launched today its Responsible Gambling Awareness Week to promote awareness of responsible gambling at major gambling venues.
