Chan Chun Sing visits mobilisation exercise

SINGAPORE - Second Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing visited an open mobilisation and equipping exercise for an Infantry brigade at Nee Soon Camp on Saturday afternoon.

Mr Chan viewed various mobilisation stations and interacted with some of about 3,000 Operationally-Ready National Servicemen (NSmen) from 76th Singapore Infantry Brigade (SIB) who reported at the camp for in-processing, equipping of weapons and personal equipment as well as refresher training.

During his visit, Mr Chan was briefed on the Army's mobilisation system and how the one-stop Mobilisation and Equipping Centre (MEC) concept has made mobilisation processes more efficient.

Since 2009, the MEC concept has allowed NSmen to be equipped at their designated reporting camp. This affords NSmen greater convenience and shortens the time required to fully equip them.

Also present at the visit were Minister of State for Defence Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, members from the Government Parliamentary Committee for Defence and Foreign Affairs, the Advisory Council on Community Relations in Defence and the Committee to Strengthen National Service (CSNS).
