Changi Airport unveils new "interactive, immersive" garden

SINGAPORE - Travellers passing through Changi Airport Terminal 2 Departure Transit Mall will get to see mechanical flowers bloom before their eyes.
On Monday, Changi Airport Group (CAG) unveiled the Enchanted Garden - the airport's fifth and latest themed garden that boasts a dramatic burst of vibrant colours and interactive technology.
Home to over 1,000 plants of 50 different species, this newest garden addition is a result of CAG's ongoing efforts to rejuvenate Changi's amenities and facilities, which it hopes will offer visitors respite from air travel.
The garden, which takes over the spot where the Fern Garden once stood, is open to passengers round-the-clock, free of charge. Visitors can weave through the garden and immerse themselves in the soothing sights and sounds of nature.
Taken from the dense rainforests of Borneo, actual recordings of birds and insects will be sounded off when triggered by motion sensors. Passengers can also have a hand at feeding koi fish at the fishpond, or stroll through the sanctuary with a spectacular carpet of fibre optic and LED lights sparkling beneath them.
The heart of the garden consists of four giant glass bouquet sculptures that hold a wide variety of at least 300 freshly-cut flowers and ferns. It is decorated with more than 56,000 reflective and shimmering stained-glass mosaic; each tile pieced together by hand.
Mr Yeo Kia Thye, Senior Vice President, Airport Operations, Changi Airport Group (CAG), said: "The Enchanted Garden is the first interactive-immersive garden among Changi Airport's stable of gardens, where passengers stroll through a tranquil and soothing sanctuary, complete with the sights and sounds of a magical forest."
