Chief of Defence Force receives prestigious award from Brunei
SINGAPORE - Singapore's Chief of Defence Force (CDF) Lieutenant-General (LG) Ng Chee Meng, was conferred the Darjah Paduka Keberanian Laila Terbilang Yang Amat Gemilang Darjah Pertama (Most Exalted Order of Paduka Keberanian Laila Terbilang - First Class) by His Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah of Brunei Darussalam at Istana Nurul Imam Tuesday afternoon.

The Darjah Paduka Keberanian Laila Terbilang Yang Amat Gemilang Darjah Pertama is the highest Bruneian award to be conferred on foreign armed forces chiefs.

The conferment of the award on LG Ng reflects the strong and long-standing defence relations between Singapore and Brunei.

"I am honoured to be conferred this award. The conferment of this award reflects the special defence relations between the two countries." said LG Ng after the ceremony.

LG Ng, accompanied by his spouse, is in Brunei for his introductory visit from September 2 to 4, 2013.

As part of the visit, LG Ng will be granted an audience with His Royal Highness, Crown Prince Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Jeneral Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah and Her Royal Highness, Crown Princess Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah tomorrow.

LG Ng called on Bruneian Deputy Minister of Defence Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat and the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Major-General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin earlier today.

The armed forces of both countries interact regularly in a range of activities, including high-level visits, professional exchanges, cross-attendance of courses and bilateral exercises such as Exercise Maju Bersama, Exercise Bold Castle, Exercise Air Guard and Exercise Pelican.
