COE prices soar amid impending system changes

SINGAPORE - Certificate of Entitlement (COE) prices soared in the latest bidding exercise on Wednesday, in anticipation of new measures that might crimp sales of some models.

Commercial vehicles saw the biggest increase - $2,998 - with the COE closing at $73,999, as dealers rushed to clear old stock before a new emission standard kicks in January.

The COE for cars up to 1,600cc finished at $77,304, up from $76,223, and the COE for cars of 1,601cc and above was $77,100.

Motorcycle premium was the only exception, finishing at $1,660, down from $1,722 a fortnight ago.

The industry is expecting the Government to announce changes to the 23-year-old COE system.
