Committee to strengthen NS discuss hiring more regulars

SINGAPORE - The Government's Committee to Strengthen National Service (CSNS) held its sixth steering committee meeting this morning to discuss the possibility of employing more regulars as trainers in the armed forces, police and civil defence force, a statement said.

The statement from the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said that the committee updated members about plans by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), the Singapore Police Force (SPF), and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) to hire more regulars to make training of full-time National Servicemen (NSFs) more effective and efficient.

The committee also considered the potential time-savings under the new NS training system, it said.

The meeting was chaired by Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen.

Committee members had lunch with NSFs and NSmen from SCDF after the meeting.

The committee is expected to announce its recommendations later this year.
