Cop slams into lamp post and dies while chasing suspect

JOHOR BARU - A constable, who was four days shy of his 24th birthday and a father-to-be, was killed in a road accident while chasing a suspect.

The incident took place at Kampung Baru Pandan here yesterday morning.

Constable Jucille Juin, 23, who was attached to the Majidee police station, was patrolling Jalan Loo Hong Joo when he spotted a motorcyclist behaving suspiciously and ordered him to stop.

However, the motorcyclist refused to do so, forcing both Jucille and his colleague to give chase.

Jucille's motorcycle was almost beside the suspect's vehicle when he lost control and slammed into a lamp post.

The victim was thrown to the roadside while his vehicle landed in a drain.

He sustained severe head injuries and died on the way to Sultan Ismail Hospital.

Jucille leaves behind wife Lini Marlina Steven, 22, who is five months pregnant with their first child.

He was to celebrate his 24th birthday this Thursday.

His body is expected to be sent to his hometown in Kota Kinabalu today.

Johor Baru South deputy police chief Superintendent Abdul Wahib Musa, in conveying his condolence to the victim's family, described Jucille as a disciplined and committed member of the force.

He said the 21-year-old suspect, who was nabbed, sustained leg injuries and was being treated at the same hospital.
