KUALA LUMPUR - A group of young people collected RM390 to rent a condominium unit for a night, purportedly to hold a private birthday party.
On a tip-off, however, police busted the place in the early hours yesterday and found 46 of them high on methamphetamine and ganja.
Eighteen women were among 96 revellers rounded up in the 5am raid at the Putra Majestik condominium in Jalan Kasipillay, off Jalan Ipoh, here.
"The event was supposed to be a birthday party. We are verifying this claim by the detainees," Sentul OCPD Asst Comm R. Munusamy said yesterday.
Police investigations found that all the "guests" were invited through a WhatsApp group.
"We are investigating whether the party was opened only to the organisers' friends or guests," he said.
Checks by police found that the organisers imposed a cover charge of RM20 for the men while the women joined the party free of charge.
"This was supposed to encourage more women to attend. It sounds suspicious," said ACP Munusamy.
"We are finding out whether sex was involved. But, so far, we did not find any condoms or alcoholic beverages at the unit," he added.
"Not everyone could attend the party. They had to be personally invited," said ACP Munusamy, disclosing that the party-goers were all aged between 18 and 22.
Ten of them were students.
