Cops probe murder of unidentified woman in river

KUALA LUMPUR - Police are investigating the murder of a still unidentified woman, whose body was fished out of Sungai Gombak near Bandar Baru Sentul on Labour Day.

Initially classified as sudden death, police are now investigating the case as murder after a post-mortem revealed that she had been suffocated and bruises were found on her arms and legs.

Sentul OCPD ACP Zakaria Pagan said the public had alerted the authorities of the woman's body in the river at around 3pm on Thursday.

The woman, he said, had no identification on her, adding that a set of her fingerprints had been sent to the National Registration Department.

"She is believed to be a Chinese woman in her 30s.

"She was slightly plump and dressed in a black shirt and brown long pants when her body was found," he said.

The body is being kept at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital. The woman was believed to have only been dead for five to six hours when her body was found.
