Couple nabbed for snatch theft at Ang Mo Kio

SINGAPORE Police have arrested a couple, aged 31 and 19, who are believed to be involved in a case of snatch theft committed at a bus-stop along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1.

On July 24, 2013, at about 11.20pm, a 52-year-old victim reported that two unknown suspects had snatched away her mobile phone while she was waiting at a bus stop along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1. The victim claimed that the suspects had came from behind to snatch away her mobile phone which she was holding in her hand.

Upon receiving the report, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division followed up on the case immediately and combed the area for leads. Through forensic evidence, the identity of one suspect identity was established.

On Aug 12, 2013, at about 1.00pm, the 31-year-old male suspect was arrested along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4, while the 19-year-old female suspect was arrested shortly after in the vicinity of Spooner Road.

The victim's mobile phone was also successfully recovered at a second-hand mobile phone shop.

The 31-year-old suspect will be charged in Aug 14 and may face a maximum of 7 years' imprisonment or be liable for caning. Investigations against the 19-year-old suspect are ongoing.
