Couple nabbed for stealing newborn from hospital

PUDUR, India - A couple have been arrested for stealing a 10-day-old baby girl from a government hospital, reported Malaysia Nanban.

Muthulakshmi, 26, from Virudhunagar district gave birth to twin girls at the hospital on June 10 but one of them was stillborn.

Last Wednesday, Muthulakshmi and her husband Karuppusami lodged a complaint with the police after finding their surviving baby missing from the maternity ward.

Police zeroed in on another couple named Muthu and Vignesh based on CCTV footage at the hospital.

Police said Muthu's wife had also given birth to severely malnourished twin girls at the same hospital. One of them died soon after.

Fearing their surviving baby would also die, the couple stole Muthulakshmi's baby and fled to a relative's house where they were arrested.
