Court acquits man of molesting granddaughter

KUALA LUMPUR - An enraged woman told her father-in-law to rot in hell after he was acquitted of molesting his 11-year-old granddaughter.

The septuagenarian was acquitted and discharged of committing the offence four years ago after magistrate Zulkpli Abdullah ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove its case.

The victim's mother burst into tears after hearing the verdict.

"You answer to God. Remember you will burn in hell," the mother screamed at her father-in-law while a family member tried to calm her down.

Court police had to ask the family to leave the court immediately to avoid any undesirable scenes.

The 76-year old former managing director claimed trial on Jan 26, 2012 to four charges of molesting his granddaughter.

He was alleged to have outraged the modesty of the girl in a condominium, two hotels and in a car here, between April 2010 and Oct 2011.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Hafizah Rajuni prosecuted while Nor Azah Azizan represented the accused.

Thirteen prosecution witnesses and 14 defence witnesses were called to the stand during the trial. Nur Hafizah said she would file an appeal.
