Crash causes condo to lose water supply

SINGAPORE - A collision between a lorry and a taxi on Friday on River Valley Road sent the lorry crashing into water pipe supplying water to a condominium.

The crash ruptured the pipe, resulting in water spraying everywhere and cutting off water supply to all 16 units of the condominium, Crystal Court.

Residents came down to investigate after hearing the crash.

A housewife, who wanted to be known only as Ms Seah, said: "I went down to ask the management about the water.

Then, they told me about the accident."

Residents said water was spurting from the pipe for nearly two hours before it was turned off.

A Singapore Civil Defence Force spokesman said they received a call for assistance just before 4pm.

They sent an ambulance, which later conveyed the cabby to Singapore General Hospital. The lorry driver was not injured.

Water bags

A spokesman for national water agency PUB said that it had provided water bags to the affected units of Crystal Court, and repaired the water pipe on site.

"Repair was completed by 8.15pm and water supply to Crystal Court was restored," said PUB.

The management of Crystal Court declined comment.
