Cycling path to East Coast among Bedok improvements

There will soon be more cycling paths in Bedok and elsewhere in the east.

Construction of an Outdoor Play Corridor with dedicated cycling and pedestrian paths connecting the town centre to East Coast Park and Bedok Reservoir Park will begin this year.

The 4km corridor will have directional signs and amenities such as play equipment along the way, The Straits Times reported.

In addition, an East Coast cycling network will connect to MRT stations, schools and neighbourhood centres. It will be completed by the first half of 2017, the Housing Board said.

Other projects in Bedok, part of the Remaking our Heartland programme, were also announced yesterday.

These include enhancing the pedestrian mall in the town centre by adding more ramps and seating areas.

Neighbourhood centres in Bedok Town are getting a facelift with new features such as improved landscaping and more distinct features. Work is already under way in Chai Chee and Fengshan.

REVAMPED

The revamped Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre will be opened today. A groundbreaking ceremony for the Bedok Town Plaza and Heritage Corner, to come up on an adjacent site, will also be held along with this.

When this project is completed in the first half of next year, residents will be able to enjoy community activities and dine at eateries in the Town Plaza, HDB said. The integrated Heritage Corner will showcase the rich history of the area, from the earliest recorded settlers.

To find out more, visit the Remaking our Heartland exhibition in front of Block 209, New Upper Changi Road till next Sunday, 11am to 9pm.
