Cyclists to go on long-distance cycle to raise funds for charity

SINGAPORE - More than 60 cyclists from Singapore cycling group Epic Cyclist will take part in a long-distance charity cycle to raise funds for the Kidney Dialysis Foundation (KDF).

They will be participating in the KDF Millenium Ride 2015, which will run from Jan 23 to 26, 2015.

The cyclists will complete over 1,000km in four days, and will cover three countries - Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

Mr Clifford Lee, founder of Epic Cyclist, said: "We are very excited and eager to do their our part for KDF again. We hope to break our current record and raise more than $300,000 this year."

The Millenium Rides were created by Epic Cyclist as a way to raise funds for a good cause, and to challenge participants as individuals and as a group.

Volunteer cyclists come from all walks of life such as university undergraduates, homemakers, banking executives and retirees.

Dr Gordon Ku, founder and chairman of KDF, said that when founded in 1996, KDF's mission was to ensure no needy patient dies due to a lack of funds for life-sustaining kidney dialysis, but fundraising was always a continuous undertaking.

"That is why I am very grateful that there are volunteers like the cyclists, who are willing to participate in such an arduous charity cycling marathon for the benefit of our patients," he added.

Epic Cyclist hopes to raise at least $300,000 for patients requiring dialysis treatment.

Corporations that donate more than $10,000 will be eligible to place their company logos on the cyclists' jerseys and safety vehicles. Donations of over $5,000 are entitled to a logo spot on the jerseys, while donations of $1,000 and above will have a mention in the annual report.

Individual donations start from $5, and both individual and corporate donors will get a 2.5 times tax rebate if the donations are received by Jan 31, 2015.

All proceeds from the contributions will be channelled to needy kidney patients under KDF's care.
