Dead inmate's mother files affidavit with High Court

SINGAPORE - The mother of inmate Dinesh Raman Chinnaiah, 21, who died in prison three years ago, filed an affidavit with the High Court on Wednesday, seeking a mandatory order for the coroner to reopen and continue with the inquiry into her son's death.

In the application, she said she was unaware of the details leading to his death.

The Attorney-General's Chambers said in July that the coroner's inquiry was discontinued after criminal proceedings showed how he died. Second Minister for Home Affairs S. Iswaran said in Parliament that the Government accepted responsibility for the death and will compensate the family.
