Doesn't it show lack of respect for law?

I refer to the report "Settling it out of court...with fists" (The New Paper, Feb 15) about two men fighting outside the Subordinate Courts and a woman joining in.

Though the police were around, it seems the men were not arrested and no action was taken against them for breaching the peace.

I found it ironic that on the same day, it was reported that the overall crime rate in Singapore had fallen to its lowest in 30 years.

Yet we seem to be seeing more lawless acts such as road rage, scuffles and death threats.

So, is fighting, especially outside our court of law, a crime?

And if it is, why was no further action taken in this case?

After all, doesn't fighting outside the Subordinate Courts show a total lack of respect for the law?

It is good the crime rate is falling, but "not only must justice be done; it must also be seen to be done".
