DPM Teo visits Brunei in effort to strengthen relations

SINGAPORE - Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean's three-day visit to Brunei Darussalam to further strengthen the relations between the two countries, particularly between the younger generation of leaders, began today.

He was accompanied by his wife and a group of younger Singapore leaders.

The Sultan of Brunei and DPM Teo reaffirmed the strong and longstanding ties between Singapore and Brunei, with defence cooperation as a key pillar of the bilateral relationship.

Brunei also welcomed efforts to expand the collaboration in newer areas such as youth engagement and health.

Meanwhile, Brunei's Crown Prince Billah and DPM Teo both expressed satisfaction with the robust ties between Brunei and Singapore. They agreed that the strong historical and personal linkages, which form the bedrock of the bilateral relations, should be sustained into the next generation.

The two leaders expressed support for more exchanges between the younger leaders of both countries.

DPM Teo, who is also Singapore's Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs, also invited Crown Prince Billah to make a return visit to Singapore.
