Driver jailed two years for molesting girl, 10

A Delivery driver who took advantage of a young girl's kindness and molested her was on Wednesday jailed for two years.

Mohamed Shariff Samsudin, 29, pleaded guilty to using criminal force to outrage the modesty of the 10-year-old primary school pupil.

District Judge Low Wee Ping heard that between 4pm and 5pm on Aug 17, Mohamed Shariff drove to Bukit Batok after a delivery to Woodlands.

The victim was stepping out of a shop when he asked her for help.

She followed him into a lift to the fifth floor of an HDB block.

There, he forced her to sit on his lap, then hugged her and caressed her chest.

The accused had been convicted on three counts of outraging modesty in 2005.

In sentencing him, Judge Low said he was "shocked" by Mohamed Shariff's criminal record.

"At the age of 22... you had already been caned 24 times, which is the maximum number of strokes, and jailed for three years," the judge added.

For the present offence, he could have been jailed for up to five years and fined or caned.
