Drug manufacturer arrested in Malaysia

GEORGE TOWN - Penang police nabbed a suspected drug manufacturer and distributor in Jalan Masjid Negeri and seized heroin worth RM300,000.

Following the arrest of the 50-year-old used car dealer and moneylender, police also busted a bungalow cum drug lab in Semanggol, Perak.

State Narcotics Department deputy chief Deputy Supt Lee King Chuan said the suspect was arrested at his office on Sept 30.

"We seized 9.3kg of heroin, 42.7kg of caffeine, nine bottles of acid and various drug processing equipment.

"We also seized a BMW, Mitsubishi Pajero, three luxury watches, a bracelet, two laptops and recovered RM42,000 (S$14,000)," he said.

DSP Lee told reporters that police were looking for more suspects involved in the syndicate.

The suspect, who was detained in 2002 under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measure) Act 1985, has been remanded until Tuesday to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
