ECP accident: Taiwanese model dies in car crash

The second victim who died in a fatal car crash along the East Coast Parkway at the Marine Vista exit on Thursday morning is reportedly a 24-year-old Taiwanese model named Chen Ren-Yi.

According to reports in The New Paper and Lianhe Wanbao, Ms Chen was in the front-seat of the white Volkswagen GTI that had hit a barrer before crashing into a large tree. She died on the spot.

The 33-year-old driver, Mr Jamie Ho - director of publishing firm Magazines Integrated - was the other victim who died in the accident.

Four rear-seat passengers - three women aged 24, 26 and 29, and a 25-year-old man - were injured.

A report in The New Paper states that there was no obituary photo to accompany Ms Chen's casket at Sin Ming Drive on Saturday night and that her final journey in Singapore was "a muted affair", with about 10 colleagues and friends who came to pay their last respects before proceeding to the Mandai Crematorium and Columbarium.

According to the paper, Ms Chen had just returned to Singapore on April 20 after going back to Taipei for about three weeks.

Ms Chen, who goes by the English name Murphy, was also the lead vocalist in singing group Again and Again, reported Lianhe Wanbao, and was relatively well-known in the modelling industry in Taiwan.

One of her friends told the Chinese evening daily that Ms Chen, who has an older brother, had been waitressing after she returned from Taiwan. The New Paper reported that she was working at a club here.

Her father, who arrived in Singapore on Saturday afternoon, told The New Paper through a representative that he is certain his daughter and Mr Ho were not dating, stating that his daughter had a boyfriend back in Taiwan.

Mr Fadah Hsieh from the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore, was with Ms Chen's father at the Mandai Crematorium and Columbarium yesterday.
