Education Minister receives goodwill visit

The Ministry of Education (MoE) received a goodwill visit from the Singapore Minister for Education His Excellency Heng Swee Keat yesterday morning at the MoE Headquarters in Berakas.

Welcoming His Excellency was the Minister of Education Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awg Abu Bakar Hj Apong.

During the goodwill visit, discussions were held which focussed on the close friendship ties, especially in the field of education between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore.

Among all that was discussed were efforts and issues of common interest include the development of a collection of work in between both of two countries that have started since 2006 (when both Ministries signed a Memorandum of Understanding) such as advances in the study of high, early childhood education and development in the teaching and learning methods.

Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore has a longstanding ties between one another even before the official diplomatic ties were embodied in 1984.

Cooperation in the field of education between the two countries has been excellent in the recent years. Several programmes have been conducted between Brunei and Singapore such as exchanges of student and teachers, twinning programmes, study visits, teaching capacity programmes, learning and leadership for education and job placement.

In an effort to give birth to potential students in the development of the country and also the future leaders, the government of Brunei Darussalam also sends students to several higher learning institutes of the Republic of Singapore.

Also present during the visit was the Deputy Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Hj Yusoff Hj Ismail, Permanent Secretary (Core Education) cum Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) Dr Hj Junaidi Hj Abdul Rahman, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education) Hj Suhaila Hj Abdul Karim and Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) Dr Hjh Romaizah Hj Mohd Salleh.
