Electricity tariffs to fall by 4.2 per cent in Q1 2016: SP Services

SINGAPORE - SP Services announced on Thursday (Dec 31) that electricity tariffs in the first quarter of 2016 will fall for an average of 4.2 per cent.

The tariff reduction is due to the lower cost of natural gas for electricity generation which has fallen by 8.9 per cent as compared to the previous quarter, SP Services said.

From Jan 1 to Mar 31 next year, households will enjoy a lower tariff at 19.50 cents per kWh, down from 20.35 cents per kWh.

This will save families living in four-room HDB flats about $3.55 on average in their monthly electricity bills.

SP Services reviews the electricity tariffs quarterly based on guidelines set by the electricity industry regulator - Energy Market Authority (EMA).
