Errant Sim Lim Square shop reopens with new boss and name

SINGAPORE - Sim Lim Square shop Mobile Air has a new owner and will reopen under another name, The Straits Times reported.

The shop has, along with its now former boss Mr Jover Chew, been in the spotlight in recent weeks following reports of negative customer experiences.

Having been closed since last Thursday, Mobile Air's shutters were open today when The Straits Times visited.

But, instead of Mr Chew, a Mr Ricky Lee was seen tending the shop, the English daily broadsheet said.

Mr Lee told the paper that he had bought over the business last week, including all remaining stocks, and has taken over Mr Chew's lease which has about a year left on it.

He added that he will reopen the shop under a different name, HJ Mobile.

When asked if he was worried about occupying a unit that has attracted much negative publicity, Mr Lee told The Straits Times: "I will just try. Even if there are few customers, I can focus on other areas like export."

The 33-year-old has worked at another mobile phone shop in the mall for a few months last year, according to The Straits Times.

The paper said two Mobile Air employees were seen helping Mr Lee transfer stocks at the shop, although he has not decided whether to hire them for his business.

The Consumers Association of Singapore said on Wednesday it was starting injunction proceedings against Mobile Air after it declined to sign a voluntary compliance agreement and pledge to stop unfair practices.
