TAMPOI, Malaysia - A former mental patient slashed his friend's throat during prayers at a mosque in Tampoi, washed the blood off his hands and rejoined the congregation later, reported Harian Metro.
The 41-year-old victim, Ahmad Syukri Abu Bakar, who was also a former mental patient, was found in a pool of blood on the verandah. He died a few minutes later.
It was reported that nobody in the congregation realised what happened because both men were standing in the last prayer line.
A witness said the two men started arguing during asar (evening) prayers.
After maghrib (dusk) prayers, the witness said some of the congregation members saw blood spots in the prayer hall. They found the victim after checking around the mosque.
When questioned by the congregation members, the suspect admitted to slashing his friend's throat while they were still standing in the prayer line.
Both men were good friends and used to live in the same house near the mosque.
Johor Baru North OCPD Mohd Khamsani Abd Rahman said police arrested the suspect as soon as they arrived at the scene,.
The case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
