Faster RedMart service

A new warehouse system is allowing local e-grocer RedMart to increase its ability to fulfil orders.

The system provides a better view of its available inventory and automates the fulfilment process so items for orders are picked, packed and delivered faster.

Co-founder Vikram Rupani told The Straits Times: "Shortly after we launched in October 2011, we realised that our manual fulfilment processes would not allow us to scale the business efficiently."

Mr Rupani believes that RedMart "can increase capacity by approximately 15 per cent each month for the foreseeable future, without any significant increases in headcount".

The firm's search for a solution ended when it found Manhattan Associates, an expert in supply chains.

The American firm, which has a local office, implemented a system in three months without any disruption to the operations.

RedMart did not disclose the price it paid for the system.

The start-up has been beefing up its operations to cope with rapid growth in recent months.

In June, it expanded the size of its Tuas warehouse by 50 per cent to 18,000 sq ft, and plans to add a further 47,000 sq ft by March.

It also released an iOS mobile app for Apple gadgets earlier this year, with an Android version due at the end of the year.
