Filipino guards jailed for using fake MyKads

KUALA LUMPUR - Two Filipino security guards were sentenced to six months' jail at a Magistrates Court here today after they pleaded guilty to using fake MyKads.

Magistrate Erry Shahriman Nor Aripin also sentenced another Filipino security guard to six months' jail after he pleaded guilty to using another man's MyKad as his own.

All three of the accused Algapur Sampang Mohammad Rizal Mokhtar, 21, Aliza Lahaman, 38 and Salihin Abnarin, 21, committed the offence at Mandy Villa guard house, Jalan Segambut here, around 1:20am today.

During mitigation, all three accused pleaded for a lower sentence stating that they had repented and would not commit the offence again.

National Registration Department (NRD) prosecuting officer Sulaiman Ghamat however, urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence to serve as a reminder for the crime committed.

According to the facts of the case, all the accused were caught after NRD enforcement officers conducted an operation to check for legal documents within the area.

After investigations, it was revealed that Salihin had used a MyKad belonging to an individual residing in Sabah and that the accused originated from Basilan, Philippine, void of legal travel documents.

The accused were then arrested.

All three of them were unrepresented.
