Fire breaks out at Downtown Line 2 worksite in Little India

SINGAPORE - The small fire, which started at about 9.30pm, affected a localised area within the worksite, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA), which oversees the construction of all MRT stations. No injures were reported, and the fire which was put out by 10pm, did not impact the progress of construction at the site, said an LTA spokesman.

Here is the statement from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF):

The SCDF was alerted to a case of fire at a construction site at the junction of Race Course Road and Buffalo Road at 9.39pm. Two fire engines, one Red Rhino, two fire bikes, one ambulance and one support vehicle were dispatched.

Upon SCDF arrival, the fire was well alight and involved three large metal containers (approximately 20 ft each) at the construction site. The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes with three water jets.

There was no reported injury.

The cause of fire is still under investigations.
