Flat in Tampines St 43 caught fire, residents evacuated

SINGAPORE - A fire broke out on New Year's day at a Housing Board flat in Tampines Street 43, reported The Straits Times.

A spokesman for Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were notified about the incident at the 11th storey flat in Blk 496C at 1.24pm when residents saw black smoke spewing out from the unit.

Two fire engines, one red rhino, an ambulance and a support vehicle rushed to the scene.

When SCDF officers arrived at the unit, they found that it was locked and had to force their way with breaking tools. Apparently the occupiers of the flat were out of town, reported The New Paper.

The fire was started in one of the bedrooms, reported SCDF. It was put out by 1.45pm.

For their safety, residents living on the 9th-to-13th floors were evacuated. No one was injured in the fire.
