Following Her Dreams

Following Her Dreams

After graduating from Nanyang Polytechnic with a Diploma in Accountancy and Finance, Miss Joanne Lee topped her cohort and was offered a scholarship to study at a local university.

But with her goal on becoming a certified public accountant, she decided to embark on the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) route with Kaplan Learning Institute (KLI).

She followed in the footsteps of her older sister, and enrolled in a preparatory programme for the ACCA at KLI.

KLI is a leading educational provider of professional qualifications in accountancy and finance in Singapore. With 28 training centres around the UK and Asia, it prepares more than 30,000 students a year for professional accountancy exams.

Joining KLI proved to be a great decision for Miss Lee.

"If you study at a local university, you have to study full time while paying huge sums of money. But with the ACCA preparatory course, I can work while studying, making it much less financially taxing," she said.

Completion of this course will earn Miss Lee the ACCA Qualification, which is essential for individuals aspiring to become certified public accountants.

"The ACCA preparatory course is very challenging. It is essential to have good lecturers who know how best to prepare you for the exams," said Miss Lee.

Miss Lee found several such lecturers at KLI.

"The lecturers do their best to help us understand lessons. They address the concerns of every student in class as far as possible, even in the bigger classes with 50 or more students.

"Lecturers here often have a lot of experience in the industry and can use real examples from their past experiences to illustrate concepts," she said.

Miss Lee recently topped the nation for one of the advanced segments of her ACCA exams, and she attributes her success to the guidance of one of her lecturers at KLI.

"Ms Susanna Tan helped me build a solid foundation in my understanding of the subject. She put in a lot of extra effort in teaching my class, writing out summaries for every chapter covered, which helped a lot in my revision.

"She's also very approachable, and has helped me solve many problems I've encountered while studying," she said.

It seems that Miss Lee is doing just as well in KLI as her university peers.

"If you aren't sure what you want to do in future, getting a degree might be the safer option. But if you're sure that a career in accountancy is for you, going straight for the ACCA is a very viable route.

"You can save time, and earn valuable work experience while you study," she said.
