Forensic evidence and CCTV footage lead to arrest of Compassvale robber

SINGAPORE - Forensic evidence and CCTV footage saved the day, as it enabled the police to arrest an armed robber, despite the scant evidence provided by the victim.

According to a police statement, a 16-year-old student was confronted by an unknown male suspect armed with a sharp object as she was returning home at Blk 298C Compassvale Street on Oct 7 at about 3.10pm.

The robber took the victim's mobile phone valued at about $200 before fleeing.

Due to the sudden turn of events, the victim was unable to provide a detailed description of the culprit.

The suspect's identity was eventually established on Thursday and he was arrested on the same day at about 4.20pm along Outram Road.

The suspect will be charged in court on Oct 18. If convicted, he face a jail term of up to 14 years and shall be liable for caning of not less than 12 strokes of the cane.
