Rear-Admiral (RADM) (Ret) Nevin Carr, former Chief of Naval Research in the United States (US) Department of Defense, was conferred the Singapore Defence Technology Distinguished Fellowship by Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence this morning.

The Singapore Defence Technology Distinguished Fellowship was established in 1996 to recognise individuals who have contributed significantly to bilateral defence technology cooperation. The award was conferred on RADM (Ret) Carr in recognition of his outstanding contributions in expanding defence technology cooperation and further strengthening the excellent defence technology relationship between Singapore and the US.

As the Chief of Naval Research from December 2008 to November 2011, RADM (Ret) Carr was the co-chair of the Science and Technology Steering Group bilateral forum, and actively encouraged bilateral science and technology cooperation.

Under his leadership, several joint projects were established, particularly in the areas of maritime security and littoral operations. RADM (Ret) Carr also supported Singapore's naval helicopter programme and facilitated the Republic of Singapore Navy's training detachment at the San Diego Naval Base when he was the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for International Programs from May 2007 to December 2008.
