Four new Judicial Commissioners of the High Court appointed

SINGAPORE - President Tony Tan Keng Yam appointed four new judicial commissioners on Monday.

Here is the full statement from the Prime Minister's Office:

The President of the Republic of Singapore, acting in his discretion, and in concurrence with the advice of the Prime Minister will appoint the following individuals as Judicial Commissioners of the High Court under Article 94(4) of the Constitution:

(i) Ms Valerie Thean Pik Yuen

(ii) Ms Hoo Sheau Peng

(iii) Assoc. Professor Debbie Ong Siew Ling

(iv) Mr Aedit Abdullah

Ms Thean will also be appointed as the Presiding Judge of the Family Justice Courts from Oct 1.

Both Ms Thean and Ms Hoo will be appointed as judicial commissioners with effect from Sept 30 for a term of 3 years.

Mr Abdullah will be appointed with effect from Nov 17 for a term of 3 years. Assoc. Professor Ong will be appointed with effect from Nov 17 for a term of 2 years.

With these appointments, the Supreme Court will have a total of 14 Judges (including the Chief Justice) and eight Judicial Commissioners.
