A packet of chicken rice, a cup of honey green tea and a Hello Kitty soft toy. These were 19-year-old Phoebe Lo's favourite things.

On Thursday, Phoebe and 18-year-old Michelle Phoe were killed when the car crashed into a tree in Tampines Road. Both had been in the back seat of the white Toyota and were apparently flung out of the vehicle.

The driver and front seat passenger were injured and taken to the hospital.

Tan Yiqin, 17, told SPH Razor that she and Phoebe had been very close and often text messaged and called each other.

"She is just a very important person," she said, describing her friendship with Phoebe.

On Friday, family and friends said goodbye to the girls at their wakes held at different locations.

The driver, 20-year-old Tang Zi Liang, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He is believed to have been sending the girls home after a night out at Clarke Quay when the accident occurred.

Investigations are ongoing.
