Fugitive cop in murder case surrenders

KUALA LUMPUR: The last police inspector connected to the murder case of detainee N. Dharmendran, Inspector Hare Krishnan Subramaniam has surrendered this morning.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the officer from the city police's serious crimes division came with his lawyer at 10am and surrendered to the criminal investigation department. "The inspector is expected to be charged tomorrow," Khalid said today.

The late Dhamendran, 31, was found dead in the lock-up 10 days while under remand. Post-mortem revealed that he had died of multiple blunt force trauma and his death was classified as murder.

On June 5, three police personnel were charged with causing the death of lock-up detainee N. Dhamendran.

No plea was recorded from Sjn Jaffri Jaafar, 44, Kpl Nahar Abdul Rahman, 45, and Kpl Haswadi Zamri Shaari, 32, while Hare Krishna has been on the run since the police launched their investigations into the case.

The city police had on July 16 released photo of Hare Krishnan who has also been absent from work since June 15.
