Fun(d) time for elderly

Singapore's Golden Jubilee celebrations started early for nearly 50 elderly beneficiaries when the Hong Leong Foundation took them on a "duck tour" through the city and waters of Marina Bay yesterday.

The hour-long trip on a remodelled amphibious craft was part of the foundation's annual charity event, which also includes cash giveaways of about $580,000 to more than 5,000 recipients.

They were from St John's Home for Elderly Persons and St Andrew's Cathedral Home for the Aged.

Madam Anandam, who enjoyed the tour, said: "It's nice to see Singapore having changed so much from the past."
