Gang of Latin American burglars nabbed in M'sia

Malaysian police have busted a Latin American gang of burglars, believed to be responsible for dozens of break-ins around the Klang Valley in Selangor.

This comes after two house raids where Shah Alam police nabbed seven suspects, most of them said to be from Latin America, and recovered stolen items worth RM200,000 (S$77,700), reported The Star.

Among them were smartphones, tablet computers and other valuables. Police spokesman Assistant Commissioner of Police Azisman Alias said police had been tracking the gang for about two weeks. They are thought to have broken into more than 15 homes in affluent areas in Shah Alam.

ACP Azisman said that four of them claimed to be from Panama and one claimed to be Guatemalan. The suspects' remand was to end yesterday, and the police planned to detain them for 14 more days under the Immigration Act to assist in investigations.
