Garden festival in full bloom at the Bay

Surrounded by beautiful blooms, visitors to the Singapore Garden Festival take time to smell the orchids or snap a selfie. This is the first time that the biennial show at Gardens by the Bay is held at an outdoor venue.

The show features 50 gardens and flower displays, including this 10m-tall orchid kaleidoscope display in the Flower Dome designed by Japanese landscape architect Jun-ichi Inada. Some 18,000 plants and more than 40 orchid species and hybrids were used for this exhibit.

Organised by the National Parks Board and Gardens by the Bay, the fifth edition of the festival spans 2.2ha at the Marina Bay site. It opened yesterday and will run till Aug 24. Tickets range from $5 to $14 for local residents, and $12 to $18 for foreigners.
