Gardens by the Bay welcomes 10-millionth visitor

SINGAPORE - Gardens by the Bay welcomed its 10-millionth visitor on Sunday, a week ahead of its second anniversary on June 29.

73-year-old Kho Su Kiak from Sarawak, Malaysia, who is visiting his daughter and her family in Singapore, was given a pleasant surprise when he entered the attraction today.

Mr Kho was presented with a "Gardens Experience" gift as he entered the Flower Dome. This is the first time that he and his wife have been to Gardens by the Bay.

The "Gardens Experience" gift comprises a private guided tour of Gardens by the Bay; a "Friends of the Gardens" annual membership for five family members; and a hamper filled with Gardens by the Bay merchandise including apparel, home ware, books and novelty items.

Mr Kho said: "This is such an unexpected surprise! It was my daughter's idea to bring my wife and I to Gardens by the Bay as we both enjoy nature. It's wonderful to see so many beautiful and interesting plants that we don't get to see back home. The Supertrees are unique. And I like the cactus too."

Mrs Theresa Foo, Chairman of Gardens by the Bay, said: "For Gardens by the Bay to welcome 10 million visitors before turning two is a remarkable milestone for us. We are grateful for the support of staff, volunteers, partners and visitors - all of whom have contributed in some way towards bringing this People's Garden to fruition. We have opened our doors and experiences to many, and look forward to continuing to engage and excite all who visit us from near and far. We hope that Singaporeans will continue to grow with us and make this a place they can enjoy with their family and friends."

Since its first anniversary, Gardens by the Bay has launched the new Far East Organization Children's Garden in January this year, and in February, opened the Sun Pavilion, an outdoor attraction of desert plants.

In the second half of this year, Gardens by the Bay will play host to Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Celebrations from July 4-6, 2014.

Later in August, visitors can look forward to the Singapore Garden Festival. To be held for the first time at Gardens by the Bay, this biennial event will feature exquisite garden and floral displays by internationally acclaimed designers; a vibrant showcase of orchids from around the world; miniature gardens; floral table top displays; balcony gardens; and lots more. Jointly organised by National Parks Board and Gardens by the Bay, the event will take place from August 16-24, 2014.
