MALACCA - A 23-year-old man suspected of raping his girlfriend before attempting to prostitute her has been arrested at Taman Pengkalan Balak in Alor Gajah.
The suspect, called Gemok, was arrested 10.30pm Thursday after Malacca police worked round-the-clock to track him down.
Gemok is also wanted for dozens of thefts and break-in cases, but his latest deed was apparently raping his 14-year-old girlfriend before he offered her to other men in exchange for money.
According to deputy state CID chief Superintendent P.R. Gunarajan, police took The Star's report that exposed the case on Wednesday seriously.
The 14-year-old girl from Masjid Tanah reported to police that on Sunday, Gemok, whom she considered an acquaintance, had threatened to sell her to a Thai pimp if she refused to entertain his male friends.
The teenager alleged that at about 3am on Aug 3, she went on a joy ride with Gemok to a resort in Pengkalan Balak in Alor Gajah.
Gemok then handed the girl to three strangers, who then brought her to another chalet nearby before raping her, claiming that they had paid Gemok for her services.
On a similar case involving a 13-year-old girl from Merlimau, Supt Gunarajan said the 26-year-old male suspect responsible was still in hiding.
Police had earlier laid a dragnet at the suspect's home in Jasin during the Hari Raya period, hoping that he would return home for the celebration.
However, the suspect, a hardcore drug addict, did not turn up, and his father told police that he had disowned his wayward son.
The Star had exposed the existence of teenage prostitution rings here, with the girls mostly pimped by boyfriends who were hooked on drugs.
