Ghim Moh arsonist, 23, arrested by police

SINGAPORE - A 23-year-old man has been arrested by the police for deliberately setting fire to discarded items around Ghim Moh Housing Estate.

According to a statement by the police, several such cases were reported from Aug 23 to 25. The discarded items burnt included cushion seats, cardboards, and clothing.

Follow-up investigations and ground enquiries by Clementi police division officers yielded a suspect in the vicinity of Ghim Moh Road on Sept 26 at 2.10 am.

The suspect will be charged in Court on Sept 27 for mischief by fire under Section 435 of the penal code.

Anyone who is convicted for committing mischief by fire can be punished with imprisonment for a term that may extend to seven years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
