Madam Selamah Buang has been volunteering her afternoons over the last month to help hand out containers of porridge at the Darul Aman Mosque in Eunos.
It is a tradition for mosques to give out porridge during the fasting month of Ramadan.
A first-time volunteer who works as a customer service officer at the mosque, the 53-year-old also helps to cut the cakes and fruits that are served in the evenings when the congregation breaks fast.
"Of course it's tiring, but I'm happy because I can volunteer as well as do my prayers on time at the mosque," she said.
The porridge, cooked in four metal pots, is prepared by a group of six to seven volunteers from as early as 2am each day.
