SHAH ALAM - The security guard who allegedly shot AmBank officer Norazita Abdul Talib last October has pleaded not guilty to the offence.
La Ode Ardi Rasila, 37, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code with murdering the bank officer and faces the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
The Indonesian also pleaded not guilty to committing robbery and allegedly firing a pump-action shotgun at the officer with the intention to kill her, an offence under Section 3 of the Firearms Act 1971, which also provides for the mandatory death sentence.
High Court translator Made Jaafar Abdullah read out the charges against the accused in Bahasa Indonesia before Justice Akhtar Tahir yesterday.
DPP Mohd Azari Harun applied for a joint trial under Section 165 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
He told the court that the prosecution would call between 20 and 25 witnesses.
Justice Akhtar granted the application for the joint trial.
Norazita was shot in the head at close range at the AmBank branch in USJ Sentral in Subang Jaya between 6pm and 6.20pm on Oct 23.
The culprit then fled with RM450,000 from the vault.
Justice Akhtar set May 7 for case judgment and fixed June 23 to June 27 for trial.
