SINGAPORE - Happy birthday SPH...

Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) celebrated its 30th anniversary with a special birthday concert by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) on Aug 4 at Victoria Concert Hall.

The lunchtime concert, which was part of the SPH Gift of Music series, was the first free public concert by the national orchestra at the newly-renovated concert hall, which opened its doors to the public in July, after four years of refurbishment.

The SSO kicked off the celebration concert with Carillon de Westminister, an organ piece by French composer Louis Vierne.

Close to 700 people enjoyed the free concert.

At the start of the concert, SPH chairman Lee Boon Yang (centre) and CEO Alan Chan (third from right) blew out the candles during a cake-cutting ceremony. With them are SPH directors (from left) Bahren Shaari, Tan Yen Yen, Tan Chin Hwee, Quek See Tiat and Chong Siak Ching.
