Hero guides meet S'pore boy rescued at Mt Kinabalu

SINGAPORE - Mountain guide Mohd Rizuan Kauhinin has met the Singaporean schoolboy whose life he helped to save following the earthquake that struck Sabah on Jun 5.

According to Channel NewsAsia, Rizuan, along with two other guides, Simon Gohinmin and Mazlee Liong, met two Tanjong Katong Primary School (TKPS) pupils they rescued - El Wafeeq El Jauzy and Arnaav Karan Chabriaat, at a closed-door reunion on Tuesday.

The Star reported that Rizuan had touched down in Singapore on Monday evening, and had sent a text message to say that he would be meeting 12-year-old Wafeeq the next day.

Channel NewsAsia reported that Wafeeq and his family had prepared a specal gift for Rizuan - a jersey with both the boy and guide's names on it.

Mohd Rizuan, who shot to fame after a photograph of him piggy-backing Wafiq went viral on social media, had always insisted that he should not be the only one credited for saving the boy, reported The Star.

He said other guides and porters should also be given due recognition as they too were involved in the search and rescue mission after the magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit the mountain, killing 18 people.
