'Highway' canned pork luncheon meat recalled: AVA

SINGAPORE - A batch of 'Highway' canned pork luncheon meat is being recalled voluntarily from sale by an importer, said the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) in an advisory on Friday (Nov 20).

The authority said that it is working with the importer on the recall of the batch of canned meat that was produced on May 28, 2014 and with expiry date, May 27, 2017.

The product is manufactured in China.

AVA said a fragment of a hypodermic needle had been detected in the affected batch which was thereafter recalled so as to safeguard consumers, while investigations are ongoing.

"The importer has recalled the affected batch of Highway canned pork luncheon meat from sale immediately," said AVA in the statement.

AVA advises consumers who have purchased the implicated product to discard it.
