Hot weather ahead for Singapore as election season heats up

SINGAPORE - As the general election fever in Singapore heats up, so is the weather - with temperatures expected to hit 34 degrees Celsius.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) has warned that warm days can be expected in the first half of September, with rainfall to be below normal during the same period.

Late morning and early afternoon thundery showers are likely for only a few days, NEA added in its statement today.

As periods of consecutive dry days can be expected over the region, Singapore could experience slight to moderate hazy conditions on a few days if the wind patterns shift.

Reviewing the weather for August, NEA noted that most parts of Singapore received below-average rainfall.

The highest daily maximum temperature recorded on some days in August was between 34.5 and 34.8 degrees Celsius.

"For several days in the second half of August 2015, Singapore experienced slightly hazy conditions due to smoke haze from fires in Sumatra," said NEA.
