'I'd a dream' hawker turns god of fortune

SINGAPORE - Hawkers and customers at a Jurong East market are dubbing a hawker a real-life "god of fortune" after a number of them had a windfall, winning more than $6 million in total in a 4D draw, Shin Min Daily News reported.

The so-called "god of fortune", who did not wish to be named, is a hawker at a coffee shop at Block 254 in Jurong East Street 24.

The man in his 60s told the Chinese newspaper that he dreamt of the number "8183" while taking a nap in his lorry on Feb 11.

When he woke up, he immediately wrote the number on a cardboard box, and told all the hawkers and customers present about the number.

Sadly, while he brought luck to others, he bought a ticket only for Feb 12, while the number turned out to be the first prize in the draw on Feb 15.

According to him, at least 10 people won money in the draw.

"One of my customers won $5 million, and another person won more than $300,000," he told Shin Min, adding that his customer gave him a hongbao of $5,000.

Two other prize winners gave him hongbao of $500 each.

The money doesn't cover the $7,500 that he spent betting on his "lucky number", but he said he was happy others won.

Meanwhile, others in the market said one of the hawkers won $1 million.
