Indonesian army's chief of staff makes introductory visit to Singapore

SINGAPORE - The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army, General (GEN) Moeldoko called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence Tuesday morning.

As part of his introductory visit to Singapore from 5 to 6 August 2013, GEN Moeldoko also called on Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Ng Chee Meng and Chief of Army Major-General Ravinder Singh earlier Tuesday after inspecting a Guard-of-Honour.

Both sides reaffirmed the close professional cooperation between the two armies and reiterated their mutual commitment to continue to bolster defence ties. As part of his programme, GEN Moeldoko will also visit Headquarters Armour at Sungei Gedong Camp later this afternoon.

GEN Moeldoko's introductory visit, his first since assuming his appointment in May 2013, underscores the strong and long-standing defence relationship between Singapore and Indonesia.

The Singapore Army and the Indonesian Army have exercised regularly together under Exercise Safkar Indopura and Exercise Chandrapura since 1989 and 1994 respectively.

The two armies also engage in a wide range of other bilateral activities, including visits, professional exchanges and cross-attendance of courses.

These interactions have enhanced the two armies' interoperability as well as the friendship and mutual understanding between their personnel.
