Indonesia's army chief calls on PM Lee

General Moeldoko, Commander-in-Chief of the Indonesian National Defence Forces, called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana Monday, the second day of his three-day introductory visit here.

Earlier in the day, Gen Moeldoko received the Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera), or Meritorious Service Medal (Military), from Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen at an investiture held at the Defence Ministry.

The medal was awarded to Gen Moeldoko - who took over as commander-in-chief on Aug 30 - in recognition of his significant contributions in strengthening ties between the armies of both countries when he was chief of staff of the Indonesian Army, Mindef said in a media statement.

The general also showed unstinting support for key bilateral army exercises, added Mindef.

Monday, he also called on Lieutenant-General Ng Chee Meng, Chief of Defence Force.

The visit underscores the excellent and longstanding defence ties between Singapore and Indonesia, said Mindef.
